Descriptions
- Marching/Concert
Band: The Fort
Hill High
School Band is both a marching band and a concert
band. Like most High School bands, from
late summer through early winter the Band spends its time working on marching
band music. As the football season draws
to a close the band begins to prepare for the winter concert. From the close of football season to the end
of the year the band spends It’s time working on concert band literature in
preparation for both adjudications and their spring concert.
- Percussion
Ensemble:
The Fort
Hill High
School Percussion Ensemble (Drum Line) is part of
both marching and concert band. The
group spends the late summer through early fall preparing for marching
band. The group is also known for its
percussion ensemble work. Early winter through spring is spent preparing an
indoor percussion show. Members of this
group are also asked to perform with the High School Orchestra.
- Jazz Ensemble: The Fort
Hill High
School Jazz Ensemble features some of Fort Hill’s
finest players. This ensemble plays a
variety of music styles including Jazz, Funk, Rock and Swing. The Jazz ensemble participates in Jazz Band
festivals and adjudications.
- Orchestra: The Fort
Hill High
School Orchestra is made up of string instruments
only. Winds and percussion are asked to
join for after school practice and concerts only. The Orchestra prepares for both a winter
concert and a spring concert.
- Pit Orchestra:
The Fort Hill Pit Orchestra is a volinteer group of students that meet in the spring to provide the instrumentation needed for the spring musical. This group meets after school and on Saturdays through out the spring.
- Sentinelettes: The Sentinelettes are a dance driven after school
team. The Sentinelettes begin in the
spring with auditions at Fort Hill. The
team then begins preparing for their summer camp trip. The Sentinelettes are a part of the marching
band program, performing at all marching band events. The Sentinelettes also prepare for several
other events including competitions, pep-rally’s and basketball games.
- Color Guard: The Fort
Hill High
School Color Guard is a dance and twirling visual
ensemble that meets after school. The Color Guard is part of the marching band
program, performing at all marching band events. The Color Guard begins in the spring with
auditions at Fort Hill. The Guard meets in the late summer preparing routines
for the marching band show. The Color
Guard also spends its time preparing for several other events including
competitions, pep-rally’s and basketball games.
- Honor Guard: The Fort Hill High School
Honor Guard carries the school/Band banner and presents the colors of the United States, Maryland,
Allegany County
and Fort Hill High School. The Honor Guard meets after school and
participates in all football games and parades.
